Wolfgang Hohlbein - Live and career

With King Arthurs sword on the road: Wolfgang Hohlbein and his manager Dieter Winkler

What was Germany´s most successful contemporary author Wolfgang Hohlbein doing on Route 66? Not merely looking for a good story. Wolfgang Hohlbein is a passionate motorcyclist and seasoned traveler, who likes to travel and to write down parts of a new story immediately in hotels. In the US, he and two friends rent Harleys to explore the secrets of the Anasazi, in Egypt he likes boat travel together with his wife Heike and discussions with tomb raiders, in Great Britain he meets some other authors to visit stone circles and other mystic places - and for sure, he is also visiting other exiting places all over the world.

"If I had been born during the Middle Ages, I would probably have spent my time travelling from court to court telling stories of dragons, battles and passionate intrigue", Wolfgang Hohlbein explains. That's more or less what he does today. Only instead of from court to court, it's from publisher to publisher.

Regarded as the trailblazer for fantasy and the new genre "Phantastik" in Germany, he has published over 200 books to date, available in numerous languages all over the world. He has sold more than 35 million copies and can frequently be found on the topselling book lists.

Wolfgang Hohlbein likes old myths

A master in different genres, from thriller to sci-fi, from children´s books to his favourite genres of fantasy and history, Wolfgang Hohlbein has been a passionate fan of the Norse mythology for decades.

His long list of successes include "MAGIC MOON" (MÄRCHENMOND), "AZRAEL", "THE DRUID GATE" ("DAS DRUIDENTOR"), and, of course, novels on his favourite topic, the Norse mythology, including "MIDGARD" ("MIDGARD") and "THE RING OF THE NIBELUNG" ("DER RING DER NIBELUNGEN")

The epic vampire tale "CHRONICLE OF THE IMMORTALS" ("CHRONIK DER UNSTERBLICHEN"), is a captivating series in 12 volumes, also available as comic book series in different languages.

Wolfgang Hohlbein considers himself an writer of good entertainment rather than an intellectual author. "I simply write those kind of books, that I would want to read myself. ..." He admires the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, Michael Ende, Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft.
